Perfil - Jón Páll Halldórsson

Like most artists, tattoo artists have their own specific styles that they excel at and styles that they are not so good at. But when it comes to the 34 years Old Icelandic artist Jon Pall, it is difficult to say… he amazingly excels at Oriental, Colored and Black & Gray styles.
Even though the artist himself prefer crazy colure style but I find his Black and Gray portfolio amazing and remarkable due to his fine shadings that create photo-realism. Black and Gray are customary used for portraits or for achieving a very realistic effect. The artist’s concentration is focused on the line and shading of the piece. Black and gray tattoos are generally believed to have started in prisons in the United States and the advancement of this underground technique was refined in the 1970′s, turning black and gray or ‘joint style’ tattoos into a mainstay of modern tattooing.

Jon Pall’s diversity of skills is probably due to his mixed artistic background. After study one year at Reykjavik School of Arts and Crafts at the age of 19 Jon Pall traveled to Greece there he was educated in tattoo art by the master artist Pavlos Mamatsis. Pall opened his first studio in Reykjavik in 1993 which he worked there until 1997 before goes on to Vancouver studying classical animation at Capilano College. After graduating from college he worked as illustrator, 3D animator and lead designer for a numbers of video game companies and film production including SR studios, CCP, and Lazy Town productions in Iceland for some years before he return to his old passion tattoo art and open his new studio the Icelandic Tattoo Corp. there he work full-time today.
